WEEK THIRTY FIVE

November 24, 2007

Decisions had to be made on window shape, so three alternative

shapes were cut in black plastic and stuck in place

Difficult to tell them apart? Sure is. Picture 4 is the final choice, taken

when the roof was off.

Further shaping of the bow took place.

The cradle to support the roof on the floor while it is being glassed,

was built upside down on the roof. Picture 4 shows it on the floor

ready to receive the roof.

Here we go! Off comes the roof to be placed on the cradle and

glassed on the underside. All hands to the pump.

Routes for the wiring were routered out, wires run, holes filled,

glass applied and the whole roof bogged and sanded.

WEEK THIRTY FOUR

Looks the same? It is.

As well as what follows, a lot of glassing in inaccessible

areas went on which doesn’t show in the external picture.

Most of this week the roof was held in place with battens to

help it retain its shape prior to glassing. (Don’t you just love the

Chris-type “ingenuity” with the weight? (Picture 1)

Then the glassing took place. Many buckets of resin to

accomplish this huge glassing task.

The cockpit module received some last minute sanding

before going in place finally.

Baffle boxes.jpg Aft bunk.jpg

Remember, the port motor is below the steps in the left

picture. The baffle boxes shown will be placed behind the

two ventilation holes you can see to allow air to circulate to the

motor while reducing the noise level at the same time.

The right picture is the under side of the aft bunk top with

the hatch battens glued and screwed in place.

Chris shapes the bow out of high density foam.

Both bows will be moulded over the plug.

Spider.jpg

Someone requested something for the girls. Well here

it is: an interesting visitor in the latex gloves.

I wonder what the attraction was?

Relax, it’s just a friendly Huntsman spider.

We had another visit this week from “Bluey” the blue

tongue, too.

WEEK THIRTY THREE

Wow!!! Look what has happened this week!

Steps, decks, cabin sides and roof all happened!

Now it is REALLY starting to look like a catamaran!

Pondering.jpg

Building the roof was not the easiest task yet encountered.

Much pondering and the odd muffled curse were the order

of the day. However, patience and skill prevailed and with

the help of all the scaffolding, it is in place.

Glassing to retain shape will occur next week.

Meanwhile……….

Miss cored the hatch holes and dry fitted the

hatches,

Pop cut some doors,

and the hydraulic rams had to be bolted under

the steps prior to installation.

WEEKS THIRTY ONE AND TWO

November 3, 2007

Steps 11.jpg

Two weeks together this time. Sorry to have kept our “frequent

viewers” waiting. Work proceeded apace on the cockpit steps

with the hatches for the engines cut out and a drainage system

ingeniously crafted by Chris.

Steps 15.jpg Steps 14.jpg

Starboard steps showing engine hatch in place and removed.

Ingenious3.jpg Ingenious4.jpg

Ingenious5.jpg Ingenious6.jpg

Beneath the steps and hatch, Chris constructed a wooden

framework exactly in the position of the drain. This would

be glassed over, with the wood waxed and sticky tape used

to prevent the glass sticking to the hatch.

Glassing the construction.

Steps 8.jpg Steps 7.jpg

Steps 5.jpg Steps 4.jpg

The hatch was removed, the construction wood was

taken out and the drain remained. Very ingenious.

being performed.
